“I AIN’T GOT NO HOME” Research, Performance Offers Indelible Portrait of Woody Guthrie (Fort Worth) Historian. Educator. Musicologist. Performer. Fort Worth’s Bruce Williams wears many hats and brings all of the varied skills and passion to bear in his moving and well-crafted look at the life and music of Woody Guthrie, “I Ain’t Got No Home,” a one-night only special presentation this coming Saturday, July 14, at 8:00 pm. The venue is Fort Worth’s comfortable and eclectic Arts Fifth Avenue, 1628 Fifth in the historic Fairmount District. Tickets are $10 per person, and reservations may be made by calling (817) 921-3500. July 14th is Woody Guthrie’s birthday, and the perfect night for another presentation of Williams’ informative and entertaining show. Combining narrative and song, music and theatre – and a modest touch of multi-media- the show offers not only a vivid snapshot of Guthrie but the times in which he lived and how they shaped and informed his work. “I Ain’t Got No Home” offers a swiftly moving narrative of key events and persons in Guthrie’s life, punctuated by excerpts and whole songs from his astonishing body of songs. Joining Williams onstage in the show are well-regarded bassist and vocalist Kathleen Jackson and actor/singers Peggy Bott Kirby (Hip Pocket Theatre, SceneShop) and Steven Alan McGaw (SceneShop). The intimacy of Arts Fifth Avenue, Fort Worth’s unique, grassroots arts education-and-performance venue, is the perfect setting for the warmly spirited- and often hilarious- populist message of Guthrie’s life and songs. Join us for a memorable and uplifting evening as we celebrate the work of a singular American artist who reminds us, always, that this land is our land. |
