The HMS 8th Grade Band and BHS Symphonic Band will perform their annual spring concert tonight, beginning at 7 PM in the BHS auditorium. The concert will feature the world debut of "As Aye!", a brand new concert band piece composed by Baldwin grad Kirk Vogel in honor of former BHS band director Mr. Don Huckle. Mr. Vogel will conduct the debut. The concert will also feature a rousing combined closer featuring over 100 musicians from BHS and HMS.
The Harrison Middle School 6th and 7th Grade Band will hold their annual spring concert tonight at Baldwin High School. The concert begins at 7:00 PM.

Coming Up: Baldwin Grad Kirk Vogel to conduct World Premiere of his piece "As Aye!" with BHS Symphonic Band!
On Tuesday, May 2, as part of their annual spring concert, the Baldwin HS Symphonic Band will debut a brand new piece by composer Kirk Vogel titled "As Aye!". Mr. Vogel, a Baldwin grad, composed the piece specifically for Baldwin High School in order to honor Mr. Don Huckle, former director of bands at BHS. Mr. Vogel will be in Pittsburgh to work with the Symphonic Band leading up to the concert and will conduct the debut performance. The HMS 8th Grade Band will also perform. The concert begins at 7:00 and will be held in the BHS Auditorium...audience members are asked to consider a $5/person donation to the BHS/HMS Band programs. Please mark your calendars for this once in a lifetime evening!

Congratulations to Baldwin sophomore DJ Pickell and senior Malia Mueller who both participated in the PMEA All-State Conference festivities over the weekend. DJ participated in PMEA All-State Choir, having been chosen to represent our region through a competitive audition at Region Choir. Malia participated in the PMEA Future Music Educator's Honors Symposium, a prestigious program for seniors planning to pursue a future career in the field of music education. Congratulations DJ and Malia!
In celebration of April being Jazz Appreciation Month, Paynter Elementary School will be hosting “An Evening of Jazz,” on Tuesday, April 18 at 7:00 in the Paynter Auditorium. This performance will feature 5th grade band and orchestra students from Paynter, who will performing jazz standards as well as improvising. In preparation for the concert, these students volunteered to give up their recess time in order to learn about jazz music and how to improvise. Jazz improvisation is the process of spontaneously creating fresh melodies over the continuously repeating cycle of chord changes of a tune. The concert will also feature members of the professional jazz group, RML Jazz.
Belated congratulations to some of our BWSD students on their participation in PMEA events in March. Olivia Sinkule was selected for and participated in PMEA Region Band at Sharon HS. Maggie Kastroll, Mariah Jones, Lauren Kobistek, Alex Bradley and Rebecca Pantone participated in PMEA Junior High District Orchestra at Norwin HS. Congratulations to all!
