In celebration of April being Jazz Appreciation Month, Paynter Elementary School will be hosting “An Evening of Jazz,” on Tuesday, April 18 at 7:00 in the Paynter Auditorium. This performance will feature 5th grade band and orchestra students from Paynter, who will performing jazz standards as well as improvising. In preparation for the concert, these students volunteered to give up their recess time in order to learn about jazz music and how to improvise. Jazz improvisation is the process of spontaneously creating fresh melodies over the continuously repeating cycle of chord changes of a tune. The concert will also feature members of the professional jazz group, RML Jazz.
Belated congratulations to some of our BWSD students on their participation in PMEA events in March. Olivia Sinkule was selected for and participated in PMEA Region Band at Sharon HS. Maggie Kastroll, Mariah Jones, Lauren Kobistek, Alex Bradley and Rebecca Pantone participated in PMEA Junior High District Orchestra at Norwin HS. Congratulations to all!
Congratulations to the cast, crew, pit and staff of Zorro, the Musical! What a tremendous production! Well done!
Enjoy these picts from the photo booth at our March 7 EVENT. Thanks to all who helped to make it such a memorable night! Congratulations to our Baldwin-Whitehall students Lexi Javorsky, Louise Landis, Samantha Poznick, Julie Puff, Olivia Rechtorik, Kaitlin Schmidt, Morgan Smeal and Katie Sullivan, who did a fabulous job representing our district at the PMEA District 1 Elementary Sing Fest on Friday, March 17 at Carnegie Music Hall in Oakland. The students spent about two months preparing their music and then spent the day rehearsing and flexing their musical skills in workshops with a concert to top off the day. Not even an interrupted rehearsal (resulting into a 20 minute outside rehearsal!) could take the smiles off of their faces. We are very proud of their work and how wonderfully they represented our district! Congrats ladies!
